In Part 2 of this series I gave you a brief introduction to using paid advertising to attract website traffic. As I mentioned, PPC advertising and placement targeting are probably the fastest ways to get traffic to your website, however in order to keep the traffic coming, you need to keep advertising. Also don’t forget to keep a mailing list of visitors to your website through an opt-in page.
There’s a lot of ways of getting free website traffic.
With most Free Traffic generation techniques, they’re slower to attract traffic than paid for advertising, and take longer to implement, but they’re aimed for long term traffic generation.
Keeping that in mind they should still be part of any traffic generation strategy as diversification is key.
Also ensure that you only try any one of these search techniques once you’ve mastered a previous one.
Probably the most talked about free website traffic technique is Article Marketing.
Article Marketing
Article Marketing is used to generate one way backlinks to your website. You write an interesting article about your favourite subject, making sure that you include relevant keywords in the title and first paragraph, two or three times in the article body and then again in the last paragraph.
You then send it to an online article directory. Some of the more well known one’s are Ezine Articles, Article Dashboard, Go Articles plus many more. There’s also a number of paid for services that will submit your articles to a lot of different directories to save you having to do it yourself.
When you submit an article, you have a resource box at the bottom of your article that provides a link to your website. The twofold effect here is that firstly, if someone likes your article they click on the link and go to your website, so you get free website traffic that way.
Secondly, your link is now listed on a high ranking website, so you’ve got a strong one-way link to your website – the kind search engines love.
Another advantage with article marketing is that your articles can be used on other people’s websites. When someone uses your article on their website, they have to publish it in full, including your resource box, so again you’re getting more one way links and greater exposure.
One Way Links through Forums and Blogs
While we’re on the subject of one way links, there’s several other ways you can do this. Firstly there’s loads of paid for services for getting backlinks – I’m not even going to go into that as it’s up to you if you use them or not.
You can comment on forums and other blogs in your marketing niche just exactly the same as article marketing, so you place a link to your website into your signature.
Don’t just blatantly advertise your website and not give anything useful if you try this approach.
You need to leave informative and helpful comments and build up your reputation as an authority on that niche, and people will start clicking on your link and so give you more traffic.
Submitting to Search Engines
You should also submit the url for your website to as many search engines as possible. There’s quite a few free website submission services that submit to a wide range of search engines, but you’ll normally have to pay if you want to get some of the major names, or do it manually. There’s no guarantee that any of these search engines will visit your site to rank you, but if you’ve got some quality content, it gives you a much better chance.
The last one I’m going to talk about is Social Bookmarking.
Social Bookmaking
These are sites like Delicious, Stumbleupon, Digg and Reddit. You submit your site to these websites and they list it in a directory. People on the website vote for your page if they like it, and as your site ranking goes up, you should see more and more traffic come to your site, and once again you’re getting more one way backlinks.
The List Of Ways To Attract Traffic Is Endless
There’s many other ways to get free traffic but this is an introduction to the main ones.
Most types of free traffic generation have a paid for service designed to save you time.
For example you can get a ghostwriter to write your articles and then give them to a submission service that will submit them to loads of different directories. Or you can get services that will submit your website to all the social bookmarking sites at the click of a button. In most cases you still need to subscribe to each site you want to list on individually, but once you’ve done that you’re good to go.

Keep up the good writing.
Appreciate the feedback Erik
Thanks Val – much appreciated 🙂
Nice blog here! Also your web site loads up very fast!
What web host are you using? Can I get your affiliate link to your host?
I wish my site loaded up as quickly as yours lol
Have you ever thought about including a little bit more than
just your articles? I mean, what you say is important and all.
But think of if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”!
Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this site could undeniably be one of the best in its field.
Wonderful blog!
Thanks Luella – and sure – here’s a link to Hostgator
Their 24/7 support is awesome too 🙂
Thanks Pauline 🙂
Thanks for the mention Nona.
First off I would like to say great blog! I had a quick
question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to
know how you center yourself and clear your thoughts prior to writing.
I’ve had a hard time clearing my thoughts in getting my thoughts
out. I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are generally lost just trying to figure out how to begin.
Any recommendations or tips? Appreciate it!
Hello! I realize this is somewhat off-topic however I had to ask.
Does building a well-established website such as
yours require a lot of work? I’m brand new to blogging however I do write
in my diary daily. I’d like to start a blog so
I can easily share my experience and feelings online.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips
for brand new aspiring bloggers. Appreciate it!
